BIO / RESUME

Gini Garcia has been active as glass artist and designer for over 20 years at her studio in San Antonio Texas. She is the first artist to be chosen as a woman of influence in the arts by the San Antonio Business Journal and has received a Citation of honor for contributions to the built environment in the State of Texas by The American Institute of Architects, highest award to a non-architect. Commissioned by both public institutions and private corporations, Garcia has completed more than 50 site-specific works. Recent corporate collectors include AT&T, Wells Fargo, The United Way, Volvo, Warner Brothers, Benchmark Hospitality, Hyatt International, Westin Hotels International and Philippe Starke International. Ms. Garcia also creates dignitary gifts and countless residential commissions worldwide. Lately, she has been exploring the world of art furniture, working with blown glass and metal. Bronze, iron and stainless steel are materials that she regularly uses in her work. This amazing contemporary art glass furniture was first lunched at HD Design Boutique Show in Miami, FL. on September 2012, where it received rave reviews.
In 1983, Gini received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in Industrial Design. She has been training in glass techniques since 1994 at numerous institutions such as Urban Glass in New City, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine, The New Orleans School of Glassworks and Texas Tech University. In December of 1998 she opened Garcia Art Glass, inc. and in August of 2003 Gini spent 6 months in Murano, Italy where she became certified from the Scola del Vetro Abate Zanetti in the art of the Venetian chandelier. Since her return she has worked confidently on numerous lighting projects both in the United States and abroad including the Marriott Aruba Ocean Club. In recent years, the scope of her work has broadened. She made 150 glass pieces for Warner Brothers’ Harry Potter premiere party in London. In 2011, she installed a massive Chandelier at the Lingner Castle in Dresden, Germany. She is currently exhibiting at the Frauenau Glass Museum and the European Museum for Modern Glass, both in Germany.
Broadly published at national publications include Western Interiors (May 06), Southern Living (Aug 06) and Empresarios AEM Magazine (Feb 11). Ms. Garcia currently serves on four different boards including the Craft Emergency Relief Board (CERF.org) providing aid to artists with career threatening illness or those displaced by natural disaster. In January of 2008, Garcia Art Glass has opened its’ second gallery location along the famed San Antonio River Walk.
